They have what's known as "spring lock" connectors. They require a tool to
expand the spring and allow the flared end of the tubing to be released. You
can borrow a set from Autozone for free. They are pretty cheap to own a set
so I recommend just buying them. They are several sizes to get. A little
tip: several of the connections are in corrosion prone areas and the spring
can rust in place making them difficult or impossible to remove. Be very
careful with the connections at the firewall to the evaporator. If you cause
a leak here it is VERY painful to repair. Also the connections close to the
battery tend to get locked up too. Soak the connections with penetrating oil
and let sit if possible. Check that the steel line that runs under the
battery box is not in too bad a shape. I wire brush and paint this when I am
in there. This line has rusted and caused Freon leaks. Also change the
filter dryer since you are opening the system and it has over 100K miles. I
found some differences with this line. It was a two piece hose and dryer in
the Ford parts book but other parts books had a single hose and dryer
assembly. I replaced mine with a single unit and the car had a single unit
from the factory.
