First of all, be careful if you get near the car with a hammer or baseball
bat in your hand. :-)
Sounds like you have lined up everything for installing the timing belt, so
it should not be out of time. One thing you didn't mention is how the lower
timing gear fits on the crankshaft. The "crank cancer" that some of us have
had will allow the timing to be severely retarded. If the gears, belt, cams,
etc. are properly installed, then it should not be out of time. So what else
could be a problem? You could double-check the firing order. You didn't say
if you checked compression or not but if an intake valve was not closing
properly this would cause problems through the intake. Is it possible to
have other wiring problems? I don't know if swapping parts could cause
problems of this type. That's all that I can think of at 11:45 at night.
