A guy I work with drives Ford Exploders. The lease just ran out on his current one so he is shopping for a new one. He is getting quotes of $500+ a month for a 36 month lease and somewhere between $400 and $500 for 72 month payments if he decides to buy instead of lease.
You can do a lot of repairs on an older car for $500 per month.
Granted I have done all of the work myself, but my 90 SHO with 156k miles has cost me less than $1000 TOTAL in parts and repairs, excluding tires and batteries.
