Just an idea, but for the peace of mind of a warranty, and the extra cost, 
couldn't you persuade said mechanic to use the aftermaket upgrade parts, and 
just pay him the difference for his crappy ones? That way, he still gets to 
roll around in his cash like a filthy pig, and you get a nice, cushy 
warranty with the better parts!

Just a thought...
