Michael;
Have had similar driveablility problems during 250K miles and 9years
with my '89. In addition to what you already checked, check tie-rod
ends, plug wires, oil in spark plug wells, throttle body gunk, and A/C
compressor. All have given me similar problems.

To check tie-rod ends, jack up a fron wheel, grab front & back, wiggle,
feel for clunk, listen for clunk. Recently had one wiggle 1/4 in. Gave
bad clunk, pulled right.

To check A/C compressor starting to go bad, (high friction), turn
climate control off, see if your driveability problem goes away. If it
does, so sorry, compressor is starting to sieze, causes driveability
issues, and is expensive. New one made my '89 idle like a new car.

Dirveline slop would only give you one clunk. If you are getting several
at a time (bucking) also check oil, plugs, wires you could be getting
low speed misfire. Had that one too.
