Wonder if it becomes a little less illegal if you use the old hand-sign
for stopping.  You know, left arm hanging down outside your window.

Just look up the brake pedal shaft. It's there, it's cheap and it takes
10 minutes to change. If you have an owners ,manual, there is a way to
shift if the switch doesn't work, however, when you get rear ended
because your brake lights don't work, it will be your fault.
