[Shotimes] EATC display

The modifications basically were only two. The bottom row of buttons will
work OK. You know the ones that read MaxAC, Vent, panel, floor, etc. The
blue and red buttons will also work. The problem was with the large buttons
( off, automatic, outside temp). One of these worked as it was (I can't
remember which one). The other two do not make contact with the button
inside. Gen I panels have have a protruding piece about center of the
button it back so that when you push the button it makes contact with the
button on the EATC. Then Gen II buttons have two protruding pieces with a
space between them that is cut out somewhat in the shape of a horseshoe. If
you press this button the inside pieces stradle the EATC button. I use a
piece of "soft plastic" like the white plastic on the inner side of the Gen
I panel. I don't know where it came from, it was just a scrape piece of
plastic.
Anyway I cut a small piece with the dremel and I shaped it by hand using
X-acto knife. I made it to fill the horseshoe shaped space. I glued it in
with super glue. I had to do 2 of these.
The second problem is with the faceplate itself. Apparently there is a
difference in either the thickness of the faceplate or the clearance of the
backside of the faceplate buttons and the EATC button that it actuates. If
I put the GenII faceplate in the dash and tightened it like before almost
all buttons would not move. Too thick so to speak. I had to make some
shims to keep the faceplate spaced away a little from the EATC but still
close enough to make contact when pressed. This took some trial and error
but I finally came up with the right combination.
One last comment. Someone posted about the "lens" possibly being the
factor of blue or green display. I believe this is correct. The lens on
the GenI is blue and the GenII is green. However in attempting to remove my
blue lens, I broke it so I just left it green. Not many people will ever
notice the difference.
Thanks,
David

Next time I do a project like this I will take picture so that I can send
them to anyone interested. I just did not think about it at the time
because I expected this to be a straightforward swap.
