I just went to Advance Auto Parts last winter and bought a rebuilt for $70
with a LLT warranty. That replaced a $40 AutoZone rebuilt with a 3 month
warraty that only lasted a year before spinning the Bendix.
If you can find them, there are shops that still specialize in these
repairs. I had the bearings and brushes replaced on an F150 alternator this
summer for only $44 at a local shop. A rebuilt unit was $150 exchange.
