"Virus Protectors
are for people that do stupid things like run suspicious executables."
First, some and most new viruses don't even have to be run or opened by the
user. Plus, most worm viruses manipulate a users address book, so an
unsuspecting smart internet and email user may not even have a chance
without antivirus protection.
"Turn that stupid program off for a day and then see how much faster
things launch or load files. A virus protector is unnecessary if you're not
being stupid."
If your pc gets scanned completely, yes this will slow you down. However, we
have been using Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition for a few years, and with
realtime protection, it only looks at incoming emails. Virtually at no
notice of the user, except the warning message that one was found, sent from
someone you know, just so happens you're in their address list.
"If you can resist opening random
files found online, or are competent enough to use a virus scanner to
selectively scan suspicious files, then you have NO need for a virus
protector as all it will do is slow you and your system down."
Isn't a virus scanner and virus protection the same thing? Kinda
contradictory here! But if you're talking about having to open your virus
scanner and run a program for every email that you get, sorry that will slow
me down a lot more than the split second it scans them coming in.
If you know your PC does not have a virus, and you will never connect to the
internet and get email, then sure, don't get antivirus software. But sorry,
now-a-days, if you get email, "IMHO", it's PC suicide not to have something.
