Well, I attempted the same thing, and quit in failure!
I found a nice $7 1.5 liter pump bottle at Home Depot, put on all the
fittings and lines, and a cheap fuel pressure gauge that I got at AZ. The
insurmountable problem was the !#$%^& lousy Ford m/c cap! I went through a
few of them, trying to get a setup that would seal to the m/c. I tried
silicone, rubber, Saran Wrap, etc, etc, but I could never get it to hold
over 5 psi without leaking. It would work on a car with a screw-on m/c cap,
but the Ford setup with those small lugs would not work.
I then planned on just getting the Motive Products adaptor, but in looking
at the $25 I already spent, plus the adaptors for the Ford and our other
cars, I just went for the whole Motive Products setup, and I don't regret
it.
For someone on a really low budget, they could get the Motive Products
adaptor for $19.95, then spend $20-25 on a pump bottle and the other
fittings.....but then you are within $5 of the Universal Motive bleeder.

I started making a pressure bleeder a year or two back, using some plans off
the web. Said plans included use of a spare OEM brake reservoir cap and
adding a fill tube through the cap. Not sure what pressure the OEM cap is
good for, but had I finished the project it certainly would have been
Taurus/Sable specific.
