[Shotimes] Bypassing A/C pulley?

Get a good used compressor from Al Fitz. If the rest of the system was
working fine, getting it installed, flushed out, and recharged should be
well under a $1,000.

If you didn't do maintenance work because of the trade-in value of the car,
you would never do anything. In 1998, I put $1,800 into the A/C system of my
'89 that had about 170K miles, like your car does. It was the first penny
that I put into the a/c system since I had the seals redone in 1992, so six
trouble-free years was a fair trade-off for the expense. Living in
Louisville through the summer made the expense worth it, having a
functioning defroster on the cold damp winter days made it worth it, and I
was easily able to sell the car (for only $2,500) a year later, in large
part because the a/c worked (which didn't work in Tim's other SHO). Without
working a/c, "maybe" I could have gotten $1,500 (car ran well, but the rust
returned with a vengeance).

Will you then not get the ATX repaired if it goes out, since the repair is
more than the trade-in value?

To me, disabling the a/c (except on a pure, stripped out race SHO) is
similar to bolting in a Vulcan 3.0 if the engine goes bad.....you haven't
kept the car in the condition that keeps it a SHO. This is part of the issue
of having an older car.....repairs and maintenance items are commonly above
the value of the car.

Whatever! If it's the compressor, and I take it to a "professional", I'll
likely be out over $1000. Also known as the current trade-in value of the
car ;^)

Thanks for the kind words, though ;^)

Get the A/C fixed already!! Your resale value has dropped by the repair
amount!!

Hey,

Quick question. Can I buy a shorter accessory belt for my '93 ATX and
totally bypass the A/C pulley? I fear my compressor my be shot, but I
obviously don't want the pulley to seize, snapping the belt, leaving me
stranded with no PS, no alternator, etc.

Anybody have a part number, or just a length, that will work?

Thanks,
