Chris,
Typically a water pump leak does not get to the ground, it
drips on the exhaust.
Drips usually come from the overflow bottle cracking, or the
radiator, or sometimes the hoses loosen going into the
heater on the firewall. The later is easy to fix, the
former are harder and usually require replacment of the
overflow or radiator.
At least the overflow is easy to remove, inspect and you can
try fixing it with epoxy.

It only happens when the engine is at normal operating temperatures. It is definitely coolant because of the smell and color. I first suspected coolant leaking from the weep hole in the water pump, but nothing looks wet. I have been leaking small amounts of coolant on the ground for some time now, which I hear is a common problem, so I keep a close eye on the coolant level. Since the smoking started I have noticed the engine running a little warmer than I recall in the past. Should I try a radiator flush and some of that coolant "leak stopper"? Has anyone had a similar problem, or any suggestions? Thanks a million.
