[Shotimes] Re: Carbon Fiber hood for the SHO

Exactly. This is like any other part you want. Want lowering springs for a
given load rating? Shops will make any spring you want for a Gen 1/2/3, but
you will pay. It's just like the Street Rod crowd. That's why may street
rods cost $50-100K. They can't find most stuff on the shelf. If someone with
a Gen 3 wants a certain type of strut, someone could most certainly adapt
something to fit....for a price.

Much like all of the grumbling about some of the SHO aftermarket parts that
are available. Yeah, places like the SHO Shop have issues, but to get
suppliers that make higher quality parts would be at a price that people
won't pay.

Rick,

The only catch is the cost. You can get almost ANYTHING
built, even illegal stuff, if you pay enough money.

The statement that they aren't interested because of too
little demand really isn't right. Wave enough money under
their nose and they will do ONE hood! Guaranteed! So that
is the catch, how much is a VERY small group of people
willing to pay to get this item?

Personally, the weight savings isn't the driving factor for
me, it is cost and looks. I would not leave a carbon fiber
hood natural, so I would paint it, and then the real benefit
for me is gone, can't see it anymore, except maybe the
underside. A carbon fiber appearance cover for the V8 makes
more sense from the appearance side. But again, cost is the
factor, at least it is smaller and easier to make.

I just hate that a lot of new cars have nothing more than a
plastic cover to look at underhood. It is a cheap and lousy
way to "clean up" the underhood area for those manufacturers
that just won't take the time/money to run wires/hoses in a
neat manner. NO other reason to have this type of cover
except to maybe keep owners from touching the merchandise!

Hi Rick,
We have the capability to produce a CF hood for the Taurus,
but arent interested in producing that as there is not much
demand for those.
