[Shotimes] 235x45x17 tires

I have had the Nittos on the 911, and had the P7000 SS in a 225/50/16 size
on my '99 SHO. Those wheels/tires were then sold to Ryan Dudek for his '98
SHO. FWIW, I loved the 7000 SSs, as did Ryan. I never did a track with them,
but they worked well. Ryan can speak to the noise as they got worn, but they
are a bit noisy when new, very similar to the ES100s. By this I mean that,
with the stereo at normal volume, you don't hear them, but you can hear
either of those tires with the stereo off. No big deal to me. FWIW, probably
the best street tire, short of a slick, is the Yoko A032R, and I also
understand that they are also about the noisiest street tire that you can
buy! Everyone has to decide what their personal trade-offs are.

Tires are obviously subjective, but I would recommend both, and especially
the P7000 SS for an all-season, but it appears that Pirelli is phasing out
the P7000 Summer & SuperSports, as the size choice at Tire Rack and Discount
Tires is very limited.

I have had Nitto 450 and Pirelli P7000SS (both in size 235/45-17) on 8"
rims. Nitto's have poor grip and handle exceptionally bad on wet roads.
P7000SS is much better in both respects. The bad news a about the 7000's is
that they become exceeding noisy as they wear down. I can not recommend
either of these tires.

I have the Kumhos 712 245/45/16s, and at Summit Point could not get them
to
break lose (once I learned how to drive). IMHO they are a great track
tire,
one of the first silica based tires, excellent in rain, no good
below 40F
but I had a very difficult time balancing them. I got about
20k on them. I
also have the Nitto 450s (225/50/16). Again IMHO this is
a great highway
and everyday use tire. Good in the rain, rides nice, no
balance problems,
usable all year (but not a snow tire), good at the
strip and very good, even
wear.

I am at the point where I need new
tires for the '97 and I probably will go
with the Nittos.

Paul
