Sorry....I can't take credit for that. I'm (sorta) the suspension and wheel balance
guy. Someone else is the brake guy. I do know there are many good writeups on the
SHOTimes FAQ. Go check them out.
Basically, you need to do this because.....if you run your car harder than just on
the street, in town or on the freeway, you will heat your front brakes up because
the rotors are too small and won't dissipate the heat fast enough before you need to
apply them again. Larger rotors, all else being the same, can do more stopping
before they get to a given temperature, where they begin to not stop so well.
There are many more knowledgable brake folks here....they should give you lots of
good info.
Ballpark price.....whatever you can get the various parts of the '96 upgrade for at
a wrecking yard...maybe a couple of hundred bucks or less....up to $1400 or so, plus
or minus, for aftermarket bolt on brake upgrades.
