Just the same as any taxi or maybe towing package "just 
happened" to get the grill.  What you call it is your 
choice, but it is now and has been commonly known as the 
Police grill, although I am pretty sure, that before this 
thread started, everyone knew it was available elsewhere. 
Now they are doubly aware.

My entire point was that you said it was "incorrectly" 
called the police grill, and that is NOT wrong.  It IS on 
the police package, also on other packages.

Ford somehow didn't merge the 92-95 cars into Gen I till 
they did the "gen IV" (now Gen III in "Ford speak")Taurus. 
I suspect that they decided that going to FOUR generations 
would make it even more obvious that they were using the 
same basic car for even longer.  So they magically merged a 
few years so it doesn't sound so bad.  (thinking like a 
promotion/ad guy here).
