[Shotimes] Bad looking slicers

After cleaning or attempting to clean my slicers, I've noticed that they are in pretty bad shape, as far and places where the paint or the finish has come off, tar that won't come off and so on. Has anyone painted their slicers, or have any idea on how to restore them to a newer looking condition? Paint? any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
