well I have to disagree. The Merk is not a shit box of a car. Atleast not the 
XR4TI.
They were imported from mid 80's to 89 and there are plenty of them still 
around. 
I happen to have one as well as an 87 Turbo Coupe and a 95 SHO. The Merk is 
pretty well built. It has its flaws like every car but overall its a tough 
little car with worlds of potential. The 2.3 is an excellent engine that ford over 
engineered and luckily so. Now technology has enabled people to get 300 plus 
rwhp on pump gas out of their reliable daily driver. So the term shit box of 
car dosen't sit well with me. 
I tell you something else, if you happen to run up on  one of those "shit 
boxes" an its had a few choice mods, you're in trouble.
