Mark:
I wondered about this too. Considering the money I spent. I replaced both
of my headlights with Ford units. The factory 6 year old ones were terribly
foggy and yellow. It looked like severe UV damage to the plastic to me. I
did seal the new ones completely with clear windshield silicon before
installing. It's been 4+ years and the car is garaged about half the time.
They still look like new. I think the insides of the lamps get dirt from the
vents and/or drain holes. I run the high wattage headlight bulbs too.
100W/80W. I worried about heat build up and condensation inside but no
troubles.
Some people have thought the factory installed units had a coating that
degraded and turned yellow, where the service parts have a revised coating
or treatment?
