Well I tried to provide a helpful answer but you're correct, it didn't
specifically answer the original question.  I agree with you in general- I
see people ask a question and I think its an interesting question and I also
want to hear the answer, then 10 or 20 responses later and still no real
answer to the question.  Nevertheless I would still drop the tank rather
than cutting the floorboard.  OTOH there are lots of frontwheel drive cars
running around with replacement cams and holes cut in the inner fenders just
slightly larger in diameter than the cam journals.
