ISDN requires an ISDN Modem or an ISDN Router.

Cisco 804 or Ascend (Lucent) Pipeline 50 both work great.  We migrated from
the Ascend to Cisco when Ascend stopped supporting the MAX.

We are just starting to evaluate RLAN from SBC (DSL into ATM) at work as a
replacment for ISDN.

What I have traditionally used for the house before we got DSL was two phone
lines bonded together.  Multilink PPP - same technology that's used to
"bond" the two B channels together in ISDN.  Slower than ISDN, but faster
than regular dial-up.  At home I used two modems in the same computer, but
at an office I used a 3Com OfficeConnect Dual Analog Router.

At one place I worked, I used THREE phone lines because the company we were
contracting for allowed unlimited phone lines but no DSL or Cable service
into the building.

Most ISP's ask for $10.00/month extra for the M-PPP technology.

P.S. UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair - CAT 3 and up) cable was intended for
Digital Phone (including ISDN) AND data on the same wire originally.  4
wires for Data, 4 for phone.

ISDN is just a digital phone service. It runs on a standard single pair line
for a BRI service. A PRI (23+1 channels) runs on two pairs (DS-1).

A standard phone line will work just fine.
