I'd say you're looking at a new starter, but check a couple of things
first--
When you try to start the car, do the lights dim at all? Try turning the
key to start with the headlights on, and pay attention to whether they dim
or go out. If they stay on, the problem is almost definitely in the starter
or solenoid. As a futher check, you could verify that you have 12 volts at
the starter while trying to crank--not the easiest thing to do.
If not, I'd be checking the battery and cabling--the starter is drawing
power, but not getting enough to engage and/or spin.

If you do end up replacing the starter, it's not very difficult. I think I
paid about $135 at Advance, with a lifetime warranty.
--Disconnect the battery (at least the ground cable)
--Remove the nut holding the ground cable on the upper side of the starter
(it's a little hard to see, but not very difficult to get at)
--Disconnect cables from the other end of the starter (on the solenoid)
--Remove the stud that the ground cable was held to (you'll need a deep
socket; I'm pretty sure it was either 1/2" or 13mm)
--Remove the other nut holding the starter, with one hand holding it in
place.

Installation is the reverse, just make sure when you bolt the starter in
place that it fits tight against the bellhousing.

I had a starter fail right when I got my car, then another about a year
later. Since then, I've been covering the starter with a plastic bag when I
change the oil, and haven't had any problems since (plus it still looks nice
and shiny).
