[Shotimes] Was the SHO MO?

In 1989, I bought a new, bare-bones SHO. The sticker, with Destination
charge, was just over $22K (like $22.2K, IIRC). There weren't many options
to add, but you probably could get it up over $24K with a moonroof, leather,
keyless, JBL, etc. I also recall a quite-loaded Taurus with a sticker just
over $18K. In that case, it was about 33% more than a comparably-equipped
Taurus.
My then-girlfriend-now-wife bought a new Mustang GT 5.0 in '89. She can't
remember the price, but it wasn't more than mid-teens out-the-door. I seem
to recall that I got a great deal on the SHO at the time (about $3K off
list) since it was a "new" dealership (just changed ownership). Over the
years, folks that bought new previous-year SHOs off the lot got some much
better deals!
Remember the effects of inflation. $22K for a car was a LOT of money in
'89!! Based on inflation rates, that would be close to $40K today. By
comparison, a quick check on the Ford site shows that a fully loaded Taurus
SEL sedan has a sticker of $28,115. Apply the 33% price factor I mentioned
for the '89 above, and that would put a SHO sticker at about $37,400 in
today's $$$.
