FWIW, and I had to take the knuckle off the strut before I was able to get the knuckle off the axle. 

I know this is contrary to what others do.

I tried to follow George's directions. Really. Spent days agonizing over it. But there wasn't room. 

Maybe if I have had the strength, I could have pulled the knuckle out. But I didn't. And I'm not, according to George, if one really needs to exert excessive force to get the knuckle to pop out.  I don't think so.

So I seperated the knuckle from the strut, and that is more likely to mess up your alignment.
