[Shotimes] (OT) Bogus Chevy vs Ford show

These reality race contest car shows are really bogus, but
sometimes fun to watch.

Ron, I agree, with pretty equal cars, the first 60' is
where the race is won, but when the cars are a lot
different, the first 60' may not be the deciding factor.

Example, I had a really fun three race match with a 62 Ford
Galaxie at a nostalgia drags several years ago. My 62 cat
(389, 348 hP set-up with a bit hotter cam and headers) had
slicks and 4.88 gears and was running 14.0's at about 103 or
so mph. My competition was a 62 Galaxie (about the same
weight) with 390 with the 406 top end, he was probably at or
near 400 hp (talking GROSS hp rating here). He had dirt
track style M/T sticky tires and could not launch hard. He
was running 14.0's but at about 106 or 107 mph. He was
making a lot more power than I was.

This was a fun match race that the announcer played up like
we were somebody important, and we had a blast. I would be
2-3 car lengths ahead till I hit fourth gear and his HP
started catching up. As the ET indicated, we were neck and
neck at the finish line. I won the first race, he won the
second. In the third, we both red lighted but I red lighted
"less" so I won the event. crowd went crazy and we were
friends for quite a while.

All those rice racers that are FWD that don't use slicks and
long wheelie bars to keep the front tires planted, make huge
top end HP with juice and turbo's/blowers, but they don't
60' very well. They still win a lot of races.
