[Shotimes] How was I able to drive?

Well, I pulled the halfshaft out today. In two pieces.
The tripod section came out with barely a tug. This
left the other half in the transmission (which I
obviously removed as well).

If the halfshaft was this bad, how was I able to
drive? I have a Quaife, does that make a difference?
Was more power going to the pass side wheel since the
driver's side halfshaft was in such poor shape? Was
all the power going there?

I don't really understand how the halfshaft works.
Does the tripod fit into that casing via friction fit?
