The radiator may or may not be plugged, but this time of year that isn't as much of
a factor as it is in the summer....also the varying temp gauge indication was absent
prior to replacing the stat.

Worn out coolant would bring the same response.....the heat will still be
transferred to it if the system is full, with no air bubbles.
