[Shotimes] LSD Conversion KIT for the SHO? Any comments?

I was getting a clacking on the bearings I think as early as 80k but a few
ppl told me that they didn't think it could be rod bearings knocking. It
wasn't a traditional "KNOCK" it was more of a clack that wasn't very loud. I
didn't really hear it until I put in my SHOrt Shifter and drove around with
out the center console for a few days. Then it was clear as day, got in the
pan and saw #2 from the FW spinning :-( I had a lot of fun on the car at the
convention, and the time I made it out to the dragstrip after the convention
before changing the bearings. I changed them out at 87k and the car has just
about 100k on it now. Runs find, but I don't trust the engine, especially in
a car I want to Track more this year, 3.2 is going in soon as the northeast
thaws.

I didn't KNOW they were spun before the convention, but they might have
been. Thankfully using AMSoil synthetic protected the internals from seeing
more damage than what happened.

I would have to agree with Carl here.  The differential pin problem, while
it is the most common problem for the MTX, is not all that common.  The rod
bearings on the other hand, are becoming an epidemic.  Who knows, maybe it's
age.  I remember the first publicized case about 2.5 years ago about a kid
that just bought a 93' ATX with IIRC 110,000 on it and it spun a bearing two
weeks later.  I have cars documented as low as 85,000 miles spinning
bearings.  My bet would be that if you take down a 100,000 mile motor right
now the bearings would be showing copper.

Bruce Malachuk drove to the convention and home with a spun rod bearing.  I
beleive his car has less than 100,000 miles.  I would place my bets on rod
bearing failure over differential failure any day.
