Mike,

I have no doubt that your experience is as you describe, but 
I get reports from the entire club base and have been 
closely involved since 1991 and that differential failures 
outnumber rod bearing failures in my book.  This is from a 
nationwide perspective.

I have also talked with the companies that make the 
differentials and they know of the problem and unfortunately 
have no solution.

neither one should be considered an epidemic, but either one 
can disable and total a car due to the cost of the repair.
