Typically the 60K involves a new timing belt, checking the valve shims and
clearances, and changing spark plugs.

While replacing the timing belt it makes sense to replace the crank sensor,
lower main seal, and water pump at the same time. Actually broken timing
belts are rare and don't cause significant damage, if any at all, to the
engine. OTOH a failing water pump can cause more significant problems, and
a failed crank sensor will leave you stranded.

As far as the valve clearances, experience has proven that it is unusual for
clearances to be out of tolerance but sometimes a shim will show some wear.
If you are one of the few people whose shim(s) start to wear early then you
run the risk of wearing a cam lobe. While you're in there checking the
valves you might as well replace the plugs and maybe even the spark plugs.

I guess you have to decide for yourself what you want to do to your own car.
I can't argue with anyone who wants to do all of the above. OTOH if someone
told me they had a SHO at 120k miles with none of the above done I would not
be surprised, and I would be more worried about the water pump and crank
sensor than anything else.
