[Shotimes] Maybe OT- 2003 Sable Engine Noises

My Folks bought a 2003 Sable this summer. Over the
Christmas break when I was at home, they went into the
dealer where they bought it (Bob Smith's in Billings,
MT) to get the oil changed, Guess they had Free oil
changes there for life (some package deal when they
bought it) Later that night I was riding around in it
with my dad, and I head something. Pulled over and got
out, sounded like the engine (about 10,000 on the
clock) was knocking like crazy. Drove it to the
friend's house where we were staying, let it cool for
an hour or so, and go check the oil. Very clear oil,
but it looked like SOMETHING was on the dip stick.
Drove it to the dealer the next morning, had them
change the oil again. And again, very clear oil, and
the intermittent knocking sounds. During the
month-long stay at home, the car made the noise off
and on.

The reason why I bring this up was because I was
reading up on the cam issue with the Gen 3's, so it
got me to thinking. On the Duratec V-6, do they have
the same sproket-shifting issue the SHO's do? Is it
possible?

Sorry for the long OT post. Thanks for any responses,
just help my folks incase they start having problems
with it.
