Seems as good a time as any to repost a message sent by John Hrinsin a couple of years ago. It's one of my favorite on-topic semi-rants ;^)

Subject: Motorcraft ONLY replacement parts comments

Okay enough of this Motorcraft ONLY comments for such replacement parts
as spark plug wire sets, spark plugs and the thermostat, okay. I fully
understand why someone would suggest Motorcraft parts first, since they
were in fact engineered for our cars, but they aren't the only parts
that will fit and function correctly on our cars;

1) There are other quality built spark plug wire sets out there other
that Motorcraft. They have the correct configuration spark plug boots
(granted, not the first design Magnecore's) and terminal position along
with the correct EDIS coil pack terminal/boot/clips that work correctly
on the SHO engine. Try the ACCEL, Bosch, BWD or Taylor wire sets. They
all feature a low resistance spiral alloy core that gets a heck of a lot
more energy to the spark plugs than the high resistance carbon/graphite
core in the Motorcraft sets ever could. And as long as the wells are
free of oil, they will last just as long as the Motorcraft set will,
plus they are less expensive. Who would have thought!

2) The spark plugs in the V6 SHO are not some "holier than thou"
"only designed for the SHO engine" configuration. We are not driving rotary engines here people. They are just ISO vs. the more common SAE
configuration spark plugs. Now granted after you add platinum pucks to
the center and ground electrodes of a ISO 5/8" hex, 14mm thread, 3/4"
projected tip, gasketed seat spark plug, what you end up with is not a
your run of the mill spark plug. And yes you can get the OE Motorcraft
spark plugs for $3.99 each at several retailers. But you can also get a
equivalent double platinum spark plug from NGK or Denso. And what if
you have a high boost super or turbocharger setup or more than a 80 HP
or so shot of nitrous? Well you should be running the same
configuration spark plug, but in a colder heat range copper core spark
plug from say NGK, Denso, AC/Delco or even Motorcraft. Heck, Denso
manufactured (under contract) most of the so-called Motorcraft plugs in
the earlier SHO engines as they came directly from the factory anyway.

3) The Robert Shaw premium thermostats have the jiggle valves and work
just fine in a SHO V6 engine, plus they offer them in both the stock 192
F degree as well as a slightly colder 180 F degree setting. And for
those that may say that they don't flow as much as the Motorcraft unit
because the plunger size isn't as big as on the Motorcraft units, have
you done any wet flow beach testing to verify those hunches? From what
I have seen the Robert Shaw premium unit's plunger maybe slighter
smaller, but it's travel is greater, so which one flow more? Plus I
would prefer to have the option of running the cooler 180 F degree unit,
especially if you live in a warmer climate, you have over bored your
'89-92 3.0L block to use the 3.2L pistons, you run 10.5:1 compression
pistons or have you have a super or turbocharger setup, (that and a good
2 row radiator). You really need to get the heat out of the SHO engine
and the SHO engine compartment to realize it's full performance
potential.

Not true. AC Delco wires are what we've sold from day one. I have sold
over 200 sets of them, even causing them to go on national backorder once,
and have never had a single complaint. In fact, people commonly email me
thanking me for saving them the money over stock plugs. The fit is flawless
and they are very high quality. When we first opened I purchased about
$1000 in plug wires to see what was nice and what wasn't, what fit and what
didn't.

Sorry if you had a bad experience with them Al, but I got a lot of customers
that say different. They are all I used in my personal cars too.

In the days when Ford is continually raising the prices of what few parts
are left for our cars, we are forced to look to alternatives. The AC Delco
wires are a great alternative.

Look on Midwest SHO for a customers review of the wires. He openly admitted
that he was skeptical when his customer said that he had these wires, but
was pleasantly surprised when he saw them.
