Eh - Star Trek is no different than anything else. They have
conventions/get togethers for Soaps, Comic books, Star Wars and cars.
They have fan clubs for everyone from Pee-Wee Herman to Bill Clinton.
The only real difference is the Star Trek groups/clubs/fans outnumber
the others and happen to be more visible. Other than that, it's nothing
new or more outlandish than any of the other 'clubs' out there.
I happen to enjoy the shows/movies. Don't go to the conventions,
wouldn't dress up as a Klingon and don't belong to any clubs, however!

Don't stretch it, Don.
Cars.....even Porsches and SHOs, have a useful purpose in life. No
relevance to a TV show.
Nor does enjoying entertainment have any connection with anything Star
Trek.
Ballet, mud-wrestling, monster trucks, auto racing, the symphony, etc
are all entertainment. Because I like a few of them does not mean that
there aren't others that make me want to hurl.
Too many Trekkies have taken the Star Trek thing way beyond
entertainment.
To me, it was just lame TV series, like hundreds of others, that should
have quietly died. I guess that anytime that people are absorbed into a
behavior, they thing that it at looks OK and can't understand the
reactions of others when everyone else thinks that you're crazy. Could
almost name it the "Michael Jackson" syndrome........."I think it's
fine, the rest of you just don't understand".
The Star Trek thing has gone well beyond just "entertainment". And yes,
I have never had the tiniest bit of interest in science fiction.
