You mean the head unit didn't have the needed connectors to accommodate the
CD, right? That would make more sense for what I remember because when I
asked about adding the CD to the car I had picked out on the lot for the car
I bought in July of 1992, they told me it was not possible to add the CD
without replacing the head unit too. For $100 more they offered the 10 disc
changer trunk mounted changer, so I opted to go that route.
Also by the end of production for gen 2s, Ford may have standardized on the
single part number.
What is the going rate for both units?
