Was it only shown on ABC?  If the military released it, it would have been shown by many other stations.

I too can not understand why the military would release this kind of material.  Especially in view of the fact that the viewers don't know the circumstances, the context, of why our troops kiiled these apparant criminals in cold blood. And so, it seems particularly unwise of the military to have released this particular footage in view of how barbaric it is.

Wrt noise cancelling. It's particularly easy to electronically cancel out a periodic and predictable "noise" source such as a rotor/turbine.  It is much more difficult to cancel out true noise sources such as gun fire which occurs at random times.

Btw noise cancelling microphones cancel out ALL audio signals (noisy or not) which come from relatively stationary sources located "far" enough away, i.e., several feet away (though further away for lower frequencies). Actually, the signals don't get perfectly cancelled out, but they do get significantly suppressed.
