SHO Folks,
Just re-joined this fun little group a week ago. After
losing my job (they moved my company - lock, stock, and
barrel - to Vancouver, BC. Pukes. I declined the invitation
to come along ...) and with only a snail-speed modem at
home, I decided to un-susbcribe for a while. I quickly
realized - once again - how much fun I've been missing ...
This list has always been able to make me laugh out loud
even when I'm all by myself on the 'puter. Eventually I'll
get around to thanking those regular posters who make this
list such a fun place for us "lurkers". As for the
Auto-lock function on MTX cars . . .
About 3 years ago, I saw a '95 SHO for sale - all the
Boston Globe ad said was "low miles, $6500", and didn't
even mention the tranny (I own no ATX's w/6 cars). It was
an MTX, and didn't yet have 39K on the odometer. I bought
it, and the owner mentioned something about the Auto-lock
feature - but I didn't pay much attention. After making the
deal, the wife and I head home, and I pulled into this new
furniture store. The AWA follows me into the lot, but can't
park beside me ; so I put on the emergency brake - and
leave the car running 'cause it's winter and freezin'
out-side - to suggest to her that we take a quick look
while we're there. Yep, when I close the door behind me,
all the doors lock. Oh shitsky. THAT'S what the former
owner was blathering at me and trying to warn me about.
Fine time for it all to "click" in my brain ...
So first thing I do is start to panic and my mind is
racing with all kinds of "WTF am I gonna do NOW?" stuff. It
took me 10 minutes before I realized I just purchased this
car, and the spare keys are (thankfully) still in my
pocket, and not on the passenger seat where I first put
them. End of panic. From what I've read since, the
Auto-lock should NOT engage if the driver's seat is empty,
but that's just another sensor that can fail, especially
when it's cold. At other times (in my driveway), I've been
able to shut the door with the car running and e-brake on
and the Auto-locks did NOT activate. But if I'm not in my
driveway, I usually don't shut my driver's door - just in
case.
This subject popped up a few years ago on this list,
and someone then suggested this feature could be dis-abled
by unplugging a grey connector underneath the middle of the
driver's seat. I tried that (with a BIG grey connector I
found there), but it didn't work. So I just have to stay
vigilant.
