Someone help this guy.....I already set him straight on the cams not being a
problem.....referred him to AutoZone for an upper gasket set (I believe it
is
available there now).  But, I really can't help him with the "knocking,
missing noise".

Dear Sir:

        I have a 94 Taurus SHO with 74,000 miles on it.  This has the V6
Yamaha SHO engine.  I developed a knocking, missing noise on it.  The
mechanic
at the Ford dealership discovered oil in the spark plug wells.  I found this
information on the internet-- Oil in spark plug wells?  The plug well seals
are ring seals that seal the well tube to the head and cam cover. Generally,
you buy the whole set: camcover gaskets, plug well seals, intake manifold
gaskets, manifold runner valve seals, etc. ).  He stated that it would be at
least a $1500.00 repair.  I asked about the SHO's having camshaft problems
in
the V8 engine & whether these occur in the V6 engine.  The mechanic acted
like
he didn't know anything about it.     Does the V6 SHO engine has the same
problem with the slipping camshaft sprocket as the V8 SHO?  Should I let the
local Ford mechanic work on the SHO because of the leaking plug well seals
or
tow it to a more experienced SHO mechanic in Georgia or Tennessee who can
fix
it as well as weld the camshaft?  I don't want to spend $1500 & have the
camshaft damage the engine in a few months.

        I would appreciate any recommendation that you could make.
