Well, here's my story. I need to sell my '91. I bought the car in December '94 from
a Ford dealer in Carlsbad, CA. I think it was a lease return but am not sure. I took
it for a drive today and it DID put a smile on my face, as the recent threads have
discussed. Why would I want to sell such a smile generator, you may ask?
Three and a half years ago, I had a little brain tumor removed that left me with
some impairment in my ability to work on my SHO, not that I have done anything major
to it myself anyway. Also, just over a year ago, my beautiful wife died from cancer
and I have had her lease car ('01 Saturn) which will be going back in June. Although
I love driving the SHO, I also love the freedom from having to work on the Appliance
from Planet 6. I plan to get something new by the time the ringed planet goes back.
The Car: '91 Oxford White/Mocha. SoCal car, no rust. Combo upholstery, no sunroof,
power passenger seat, Ford SVO rod shifter was installed by the SHO Shop just before
the shifter kit was discontinued. It has been mostly sitting in my garage since my
wife got sick. I take it out for a spin every few weeks and put it on a trickle
charger for a while periodically. It shows 2.xxK on the odometer but is really
102.xxK. It is a little bit higher because the speedo cable broke a while ago but
did not accumulate many miles that way anyway.
It had a 60K done at just over 100K (pretty recently, mileage wise) by the SHO Shop
which included new engine mounts, all new coolant hoses and the usual 60K stuff.
That cost me almost $2K. It has been fed Mobil 1 since I have owned it. It always
fires right up, runs strongly, and doesn't make any funny noises. The clutch was
replaced a few months ago, for the first time since I have owned the car and has
maybe a few hundred miles on it now. A new Modine radiator was put in a few months
ago because the old one started leaking; (never overheated.)
It is other wise stock. You can have the silencer cone that I removed, (the only
performance mod.) It also has a pretty new Alpine stereo with Kenwood speakers. I
got the Alpine because it lights up the same color as the dash.
Issues: I get a CE light with a Code 33. I have a replacement PFE sensor but can't
get my big 'ol hands in there to get it changed. It did pass smog last time, even
with this problem and there is no sign of crud in the EGR passages, so I'm pretty
sure it is just the sensor. (The smog guy must have been blind to the CE light.)
Broken antenna. Victim of a drive through car wash. One of the (very) rare times
I've used one of those places, I didn't read the fine print on the disclaimer. I
have a Ford replacement mast that you can have.
Driver's seat leather. What can I say? At least the rear seat is pristine. A few
scratches on the back of the deck lid. Somebody put their bike in the back of the
garage before I backed in (OK, it was me.)
