[Shotimes] How do you recondition a hood mat?

I know that many people have tried washing them with lousy
results (including myself).
What the SS Impala crowd did, at least some of them, is to
carefully vacuume it then spray with black paint to make the
color dark again, then they sprayed high temp clear on it
till it was soaked. They said this way, they could at least
spray it off and dirt would not soak into it. But it made
it look REALLY artificial.
I think the best thing is just use a little black paint on
it (and maybe make a pattern for the SHO on the V6 cars and
use a bit of white paint on that area).
With a little bit of masking and some care, you don't even
have to remove it.
