[Shotimes] OT - Computer- to turn off or not

I keep ours on 24/7 as well. I have ever since I started running a SpitFire BBS back in 1992. Now that the BBS has been defunct (since '94), I just kept em going all day. Now I run SETI to get them something to do. 5,691 packets and counting...
God I'm a nerd. :)
But I've never had any harddrive failures (yet), and I'm under the assumption that keeping most of it at a constant temp and voltage is better than heating it up and turning it off and then shocking it back to life again the next day..

Wow! That is pretty bad! I don't even have laptop failures that bad. In the
4 years of running 130 Dell Optiplex's, I have 2 hard drive failure, 1
monitor.

I have 30 or so Omnitech brand (white box) and the 6 and 7 year old ones are
just starting to have power supply fan problems.

I tell my users that they NEED to keep their computer on at all times so I
can download virus updates, OS patches, Bios's and the such. Most of them
do.

<home computer. However my sampling at home is 1 out of 1 still running.>>

Just FYI. We run our PC's 24/7 and have for 8 years. In that time frame,
on four workstations, we have replaced 3 hard drives and 4 monitors. I'm
not sure I'd run my home PC all the time. JMO.
