Nope! http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/basics/activation/mpafaq.asp It tries
activating and if you don't it gives you 30 days. After it has been
activated, it doesn't send anything else to MS ever.

Each time XP boots up, it looks for an internet connection to send the hash
file. If there is no connection, the computer boots up just fine, and XP
will wait until there's an internet connection so it can send the hash file.
MicroShaft's strategy is that you'll eventually need/want to connect to the
internet.
