Thanks a million, Paul. A perfect sound bite of what I needed the most.
Although I didn't really want to see the words "In Tandem". Your point about the
ECT is very well taken and I'll definitely check it out!
At the moment, with temps back in the 40s she's not overheating a bit, so
I'll keep motoring and paying close attention. At least any of these fixes (fan
motors, rad, sensors) should come in less than $300 and the budget can stretch
to manage that. Beenie Weenie is a lifestyle choice ;-)

The fan kicks into high speed at 220F or so. High speed is full voltage,
low speed uses a dropping resistor to reduce the voltage and speed. They
operate in tandem. Turning on the A//C when idling should turn them on low
speed. Maybe the ECT is bad and reporting a lower than actual temp to the
PCM?
