[Shotimes] Intake Torques

Bob,

Torque values are mostly for putting together the motor the
FIRST time, sometimes with oiled threads.

Unless it is really critical, like rod bolts, main bearing
bolts, head bolts, some suspension or brake bolts, I don't
worry about torque.

With the intake, there is no critical tension required, just
a good seal. Plus you are going into aluminum, and it is
easy to strip those threads. I would use a 3/8" ratchet and
give them a good tug beyond where they quit moving with
reasonable force. Use common sense. No need for lots of
torque.

This is especially important on those tiny threads on the
valve cover bolts. they bottom out, so when they stop
turning, give them a tiny tug and leave them alone! I know
this from experience. Heck I even bought a nice small
torque wrench, but now know that it isn't of much value for
most things on a car.
