My point yesterday was that back in the day of carbs and points, most
vehicles on the road (except George's) were woefully out of tune.  If it
started and took you where you needed to go, that was good enough.  A visit
to the mechanic was only warranted when it didn't start, which is no
different than today, but with EFI, DIS, 100k mile plugs, cats, and check
engine lights the time between scheduled and unscheduled service visits is
much longer and therefore the car runs more efficiently for a longer period
of time.  Good for the environment and us.

Yesterday someone mentioned the smell of Avgas.  As a pilot I have to draw a
sample from the tank before each flight and inspect it for water and dirt
particles.  The 100LL Avgas has a funky sour odor, I much prefer the smell
of raw auto gas.  Also, raw Jet fuel/kerosene/diesel has a horrible smell,
but coming out the back end of a jet engine it has THE sweetest "aroma".
It's a pilot thing.
