[Shotimes] (OT) audio advice, please: adding a sub to 94 CV

Seeing that the headunit that you have was only around $100, I highly
doubt that it has a dedicated subwoofer pre-out. It probably does have
at least 1 pair of RCA preouts though, which can still be used to feed a
sub amp, but you aren't going to have the crossover features built into
the head unit. Since that is probably the case you are going to need to
find an amp that has crossover features, many cheaper models do not have
that. Since you are on a tight budget, I recommend shopping on ebay.
If you can spend maybe 200, instead of the initial 100, you will be much
better off in your choice. I'd recommend getting a brand you know, stay
away from Krako and Jensen if possible. I look at it this way, if you
can find that model or brand in Pep Boys/Discount Auto type places, it
most likely isn't very good. You should be able to find Pioneer and
Alpine products for decent prices on ebay, maybe even look at the open
box specials at Best Buy/CC. I would recommend getting a 10" sub and a
200-300 watt amp, just make sure you match the sub and amp as far as
power requirements. You will also need to run power wire from the
battery to the trunk, you can buy a power kit, or do it yourself for
much cheaper. Stick with 4ga, as it will provide plenty of clean power
and if your son wants to add another amp for the speakers some day, that
wire will be able to accommodate that as well. Since he wants more
bass, go the sub route, and maybe for xmas, get him a decent set of 6.5"
speakers for the front door ;)
