Well this is really an easy problem to solve. Get a Self-Powered Bass Tube.
It's THE most affordable way to add a little more bass to your vehicle.
It's also the easiest install. I promise it will fill in the low end that
is always so lacking on stock stereo systems.

If you want to upgrade past that and go for quality not quantity, then
there's no real affordable way to do it. Front component speakers that are
amped is the only way to get quality out of a stereo system in any vehicle.
But that ends up with the cost pushing $1000 for JUST that. Aftermarket
Coaxial speakers will sound MUCH better than stock papers, but even then
that's not even close to amped components.

Oh, and you DO know how many subs he COULD fit in that trunk, right? <G>

Using the "Gotti Rule of '97", you can fit 6 bodies in that trunk, and given
Two 8" subs and the required airspace for those subs per body, you've got
about 6 12" subs that will fit in that truck and still give the required
airspace (inside AND outside the box) per sub. No this calculation does not
take into account the space an amp rack may occupy, however one may
substitute the space that two 8" subs plus airspace(e.g. one body) take up
for the space required for a decent amp rack.

Before someone asks, the assumed size of each body in the "Gotti Rule of
'97" is the size of a "non-disassembled Medium build, middle aged, Italian
male." Also, this rule doesn't take into account space taken up by
disassembled bodies. That can be too messy of a calculation because
disassembly can sometimes result in doubling the capacity.
