Actually Mike, if you can hear it 3 blocks away, porting it into the cabin
will make a HUGE difference. Porting makes a bigger difference the bigger
the volume of air you move. My system is "ported" into the cabin via the
holes in the rear deck where the rear speakers used to be. It's not your
normal porting though, because the boxes are still sealed. It's more like a
"Backwards bandpass box." Even with the sub volume set at 1/4th you can put
your hand over the holes and FEEL the air being moved. But my system is far
from the norm..........
Still, porting is a tuning issue. It doesn't make the entire frequency
range louder, it makes a specific section of the frequency range louder.
Porting is something you do if you want to lower the frequency that your
bass is the most powerful at.
I prefer the catch all method though. Sealed boxes, more subs. Loud AND
Tight bass. <G>
