I met Smokey a few years ago at Lowe's Motor Speedway.  He was getting older
but was still full of stories (if his blonde wife, the journalist, wasn't
around).  I mentioned safer barriers at tracks and the Smoke talked for what
had to be the best part of an hour.

He was an amazing man.  I saw him at Rockingham in the garage area the next
year and he remembered me.  He couldn't remember my name, but he came over
to me and talked.  Not too many people would run a business called "The Best
Damn Garage in Town."  Smokey did and it probably was.

I'm much richer for the experience...
