I really like the fact that they can, on the spot, make up a rule against
something just because they don't like it or they think it might give an
advantage to the team they don't want to have an advantage!

I think that NASCAR should be scrapped and a new series that is actually
=based on FACTORY cars should be started.  Kinda like the old AAA stock cars
used to be.  No more rear wheel drive Taurus, No more pushrod V8's that you
can't even BUY in a car now days.  No more of the stereotypical NASCAR
bullshit.
I was looking at a display of about a dozen NASCAR cars at the local
Wal-Mart parking lot a while back.  I noticed that all the cars were almost
exactly the same with the same axles, hubs, steering gear and so on.  I
asked about and was nearly thrown out of there!  Then one member of the
"Press Corps" explained to me that "It was in the interest of safety"

Yep, we can thank Smokey for the NASCAR tradition of making up the rules as 
they go along -- and they get better at it every year.
