Whoever penned the NASCAR Nextel Cup (nee Grand National) was brilliant for
adding the one line, "actions detrimental to stock car racing." They can us
that for almost anything and do. Of course, nobody knows if it's in there
or if there is a rule book because no one that I know of (including some of
the competitors who laugh it off) has ever seen once to know if it really
exists.
It's a show and NASCAR is the dictator. That's why you don't hear too much
flack from the drivers and teams. If you complain too loudly, they have a
way of finding something wrong with your car.
I'll never forget the many times that Jack Roush cars that won always had a
problem after the race going through inspection. It happened a lot at
Rockingham and Richmond. Finally Jack became very silent about the "rules."
He doesn't have that problem anymore, even last year when the Fords were at
a total disadvantage. You notice that Matt Kenseth won the championship in
a Roush car. I asked Jack about that last year. He kind of smiled and
didn't answer.
Real racing can be found on your local track, not in NASCAR. And it's sad
to say that.
